  • 100g butter
  • 115g (1 cup) vermicelli pasta (San Remo brand), broken into 4cm lengths
  • 400g (2 cups) white long-grain rice, washed, drained
  • 1L (4 cups) water
  • 1 teaspoon salt


  • Step 1
    Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the vermicelli and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Step 2
    Add the rice, water and salt to the pan and stir to combine. Cover and bring to the boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and cook, covered, for 12 minutes or until all the liquid is absorbed. Use a fork to fluff the rice.
