  • 45cm-long baguette, sliced
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 30g butter
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 250g cream cheese, chopped, softened
  • 1/2 cup light whole-egg mayonnaise
  • 3 x 170g cans crab meat, drained (see Notes)
  • 1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped
  • 40g goats cheese, crumbled
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • Fresh chives, chopped, extra, to serve


  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 220C/200C fan-forced. Line a large baking tray with baking paper.
  • Step 2
    Place bread on prepared tray. Spray both sides with oil. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden and crisp, turning halfway. Cool.
  • Step 3
    Meanwhile, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and celery. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until just softened. Add garlic. Cook for 1 minute or until fragrant. Add cream cheese. Stir until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in mayonnaise, crab and chives. Season.
  • Step 4
    Place crab mixture into a shallow, 4 cup-capacity ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with goat’s cheese, then breadcrumbs. Spray with oil.
  • Step 5
    Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden. Cool for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with extra chives. Serve with bread.
